Some think of themselves as professionals and are proud of their skills; others are far from being serious and simply love the chaos.

GERARD THIBAULT D'ANVERS
GERARD THIBAULT D'ANVERS
Thibault was born at the end of the 16th century in the family of a wealthy textile merchant – Henry Thibault. From childhood, he was fascinated by melee weapons – especially rapiers. However, his father had other plans for him. He hoped that he would take over and develop the family business.
Unfortunately, Thibault was sickly from an early age. When he was less than 10 years old, doctors pronounced that Thibault only had a few years to live. Father summoned and paid more medics, but the diagnosis was always the same. In the end, he gave up and allowed his son to pursue his dream. This way Thibault started to train under master Lambert van Someron. Years passed and Thibault, although sickly, turned out to be a natural fencing talent. He learned quickly and soon equaled his teacher in fencing mastery. The strangest thing was that he was still alive. Some say he duels death itself every night and wins that fight every night. His father, seeing that Thibault was growing up and doing well, entrusted him with a part of the family business.
During one of his trade expeditions, Thibault ended up in Spain. There, in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, in the Guadalquivir Valley, for the first time in many years he met a swordsman who better than himself.
A strange, old man in a threadbare clothes with an embroidered cross of the “Ordem do Hábito de Cristo” stumbled into Thibault. An argument ensued after the stranger refused to apologize. Thibault reached for his weapon to teach him a lesson. The stranger didn’t even draw his weapon. He only picked up the shod cane on which he was leaning and attacked. Thibault parried with ease and pushed the blow away. However, the opponent, reacting to the pressure of the blade, only changed the position of his hand and continued the attack. Thibault realized that his defense got him into an even worse position and he had to defend himself again.
Every action, every move was met with an immediate response from the stranger. It was as if Thibault’s rapier and the old knight’s cane were bound together by an invisible bond. Finally, after a few moves, the stranger took advantage of Thibault’s slightly too strong parry, broke the staff off the blade and hit into the resulting opening. Thibault was disarmed. He was standing in the square and emotions were boiling in him. On one hand, he was furious and humiliated, on the other – he was fascinated. He asked the stranger his name. – Jerónimo Sánchez de Carranza, retired Grand Master of the Order of the Robe of Christ. You are talented. Come with me. And so Thibault began studying with the creator of la Verdadera Destreza, the true art of fencing.
When Carranza died, Thibault returned to his homeland. There, at the tournament in Rotterdam, before the assembly of Dutch martial arts masters and in front of Maurice Orange himself, he defeated all his opponents. The unusual fighting style caught the attention of the prince and the fencing masters. However, they remained skeptical. Thibault calmly announced that he could defeat anyone who had any doubts. This is how one of the most unusual duels in history took place. News were sent out. Soon a place was marked out in the market square at the Prinsenhof in Rotterdam.
Every morning, for 3 days, Thibault waited there. Anyone willing could cross blades with him. Thibault was leaving undefeated every night. The prince and his guests watched this extraordinary spectacle of one actor from the windows of the palace. This event echoed widely on the continent and strengthened Thibault’s position. Thanks to the patronage of King Louis XIII, he wrote and published a fencing treatise.
He also taught fencing. With time, however, it turned out that for many his system was too demanding. They preferred other, simpler ones. After the flintlock was invented, the pistol gained popularity as a self-defense tool. The aging Thibault, following the example of his old master Carranza, stepped back into the shadows and began to live an almost hermit life in the countryside.
Today Thibault is almost 80 years old. A man who was diagnosed never to reach adulthood still fights against death every night and still wins. The archangel he saw in a dream ordered him to go to Vienna. The old master has the last and most important task to complete. The last duel. He must defeat the Enemy of all mankind.
SALVATOR FABRIS
SALVATOR FABRIS
He was born in 1544 near Padua. He was trained by the great masters of Renaissance fencing. He turned out to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, talent of the era. Great masters like Francesco Alfieri and Giuseppe Pallavicini called him “the greatest name of our profession”. He traveled a lot and taught fencing at various courts. His principals included powerful rulers – John Frederick, the Prince-Bishop of Bremen, and later his cousin – King of Denmark Christian IV. It was in 1606 under the royal patronage that Fabris published his fencing treatise Lo Schermo, overo Scienza D’Arme – the most important work of the era dealing with the art of rapier. Repeatedly copied and plagiarized.
At the beginning of the 17th century Fabris was a living legend. In his youth he was supposed to help Shakespear choreograph the fight scenes for the premiere of Hamlet.
He offered his services as a killer under the law. He went out into the city and provoked an argument with the chosen opponent. Then he persisted until he was called out to a duel. He won them all.
However, the strangest adventure in which he was to take part took place in 1594. Then Fabris was hired to kill the King of Sweden – Charles IX. On 1 February 1594, the royal funeral of John III took place. A few days after the funeral, on 12 February, Charles was to watch a theater performance in Uppsala. He did not know that Fabris was one of the actors.
The plan was daring. During the performance, a duel scene was to take place. Fabris was supposed to participate in it, suddenly jump off the stage and pierce the king.
However, something went wrong. Charles decided to forego the performance at the last moment. They say that a secret guest warned him about it. Apparently that same evening another, or perhaps the same, mysterious visitor visited Fabris and showed him the way to escape from Sweden. The alarmed guards looked for the would-be kingslayer for a long time.
In 1618, at the age of 74, Fabris became seriously ill. While he was lying on his death bed, he was visited by the same guest as 24 years ago in Uppsala. The guest offered him a deal – a soul in exchange for a long life. This is how Salvator Fabris became a servant of Satan.
Officially dead, in fact possessed by the demon Caacrinolaas. The demon keeps Fabris alive and grants him superhuman abilities. Caacrinolaas is the Count of Hell, a demon of slaughter and murder. Creator of the tools of crime. Apparently it was he who gave Cain the stone with which he smashed Abel’s head. Fabris became the devil’s chosen. A killer whose task is to remove all obstacles in the path of Satan. He is actually dead – his body lives only because it is supported by a demon. Thanks to this, Fabris is extremely resistant to wounds. However, there are also downsides to this condition. He is treated as a demon for the purposes of special rules. As in the case of demons – sometimes only people with high faith or extraordinary senses (like our players) – are able notice the distorted face in the blink of an eye.

Few years ago, the king suddenly began to pay more and more attention to the Marquise de Montespan though. It was all the stranger that in the meantime she got married and even gave birth to two children. It was whispered that the sudden interest on the part of the king was caused by charms, or magic potions.
Relations between the king and Louise improved temporarily when she gave him a son, Philip, in January 1665, but the child soon died and the king decided to dismiss the favorite. Since then, the Marquise de Montespan is a gray eminence at the royal court. No wonder that when the Sun King decided to put forward his candidacy in the race for the imperial crown, Athénaïs took royal instructions to Vienna.

Julio soon joined the Inquisition. He traveled with Nidhard to Vienna, where Vicente, summoned by a letter, was waiting for them.
Brother Julio is quiet and effective. He is deeply convinced of his mission, which he emphasizes by quoting passages from the Bible. However, something inside him has snapped recently. The mission in Vienna will be his last, after which he plans to retire.
Julio, in order not to make noise, uses a special pistol – an air gun. The weapon is silent, but does not have an internal mechanism for pumping the compressed air tank. The pump is quite cumbersome and Julio does not take it for action, so when the air runs out, there is no way to refill it.

DOCTOR JOHANN FAUST
DOCTOR JOHANN FAUST
Born around the year 1604 in the city of Roda to a peasant family.
Thanks to his intelligence and ambition he graduated from Wittenberg University. He was awarded Ph.D. titles in theology, astrology and medicine. This was not enough for him, however. Hurried by his thirst for knowledge and the short human lifespan he started studying magical arts.
At the age of 38 he signed a pact with Mephistopheles. After serving Faust for 24 years, the demon will collect his soul. Even though apparently Faust hasn’t aged a day since signing the pact, he is aware the debt needs to be paid very soon.
MEPHISTOPHELES
MEPHISTOPHELES
Mephistopheles is a fallen angel. No one knows where his name came from. Some claim it comes from Hebrew, meaning “spreader of lies”. Others say it goes back to Classical Greek and translates to “not bringing light”. Mephistopheles himself claims he used to be the Lord’s angel and he was honored to see the very face of God.
However, he was cast down to hell for siding with Luciper. Since then, he must serve the Demon Prince as one of the damned. He travels Earth looking for people ready to sell their souls for a moment of fame, knowledge, or honors.
Mephistopheles can take any human form. We depicted him in 1580s clothes. It was the time when Marlowe’s play “The Tragical History of the Life and Death of Doctor Faustus” was staged for the first time.

KONRAD KIEFERN
KONRAD KIEFERN
Konrad Kiefern is the owner of the inn Zum Zinnsoldat (“Under the Tin Soldier”) on Wolfenstrasse in Vienna.
A former soldier. Kiefern is known for his love of alcohol and having a good time. His favorite cry is the Latin “bibamus” (let’s drink!). For this reason, he cannot be fielded in the Ottoman faction. Konrad limps a little on his right leg. When asked about it, he says he was shot by “some Lutheran heretic” in the knee in the trenches of Breda, or “stabbed with a papist pike at Rocroi.” It’s hard to figure out what the truth is. The story of why he limped is different every time.
ANNA & VALERIUS FARKAS
ANNA & VALERIUS FARKAS
Anna and Valerius Farkas are twins. Their family is cursed with lycanthropy. Valery is affected by it, while Anna is not.
The Farkas house originally comes from the Transylvanian town of Szeszarmy. They used to rule the region, but have since declined. Anna and Valery’s father fought along Rákóczi and died fighting the Turks in 1660. The Ottomans captured their holding and granted it to their vassal, who banished the mother with the twins.
They are now in their twenties and live with their distant relatives in Vienna. Trying to make ends meet, they take on all kinds of jobs. As you can imagine they don’t go for Sultan’s subjects so they will not work for Ottomans.
